Offered is a Rolex Submariner Date 168000, one of the rarest transitional Submariner references and the direct successor to the 16800. Produced for only a brief period in 1987, the 168000 often called the “triple zero” represents Rolex’s transition to improved 904L-type corrosive-resistant steel, predating the later widespread adoption across the brand.
This example features the correct gloss black tritium dial with white-gold surrounds, the final and most collectible dial generation before the switch to the 16610. The tritium lume has developed an even, attractive patina, delivering the warm vintage presence collectors expect from a well-preserved example.
The case shows honest, unpolished vintage wear, with natural softening of the chamfers appropriate for a nearly 40-year-old tool watch. The aluminum bezel insert remains period correct, showing balanced vintage aging. The movement has been recently serviced and runs cleanly and reliably.
Fitted with a Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet, 593 end links, and a Y10 clasp code (1995) consistent with Rolex’s service-replacement practices of the era. The bracelet displays vintage wear but remains fully secure and functional.
